The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has nine community-based field sites across Pakistan (including five in Karachi) and focuses on research for the betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that caters to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.
The department is conducting a study in two preidentified sites of District East, Karachi for environmental surveillance of COVID-19 from sewage water. It will help to determine presence and quantification of SARS COVID-19 virus in particular area.Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:
visit the sites of District East, Karachi twice a week for project work
collect and filter raw sewage from site
transport the filtrate to AKUH Infectious Disease Research Lab
manage field work process to ensure effective use of time
facilitate meetings among the research staff
liaise with the administration regarding logistics for field work
provide supervision and support to research staff in liaising with their supervisors
follow and ensure field implementation of project related SOPs and guidelines as defined in the research project.Requirements:
You should have:
a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Sciences or equivalent
preferably one year of relevant experience
basic research, interpersonal and communication skills
good command over the use of computer applications, particularly MS Office
resilience and ability to cope-up with work pressure and meet stringent timelines.
This is a close-ended position to be based in Karachi.
